Thirty, flirty and

The story of Lerato's 30th — and how one page replaced a disappearing Instagram story, a hundred DMs and "where exactly in Sandton City?"

Lerato in black Birthday

Lerato Masuku turns 30 — The All Black Affair

Standard package · 3 events · RSVP · gallery

Dinner and an after-party at Sandton City, then a recovery brunch at Nelson Mandela Square — with the dress code, where to meet, parking, the Gautrain and how to RSVP before the 40 seats are gone.

The story behind the example

"I'm turning 30. Everyone wears black."

Lerato had one rule for her 30th: all black, head to toe, no exceptions. A private dinner at Sandton City, an after-party, and brunch the next morning for whoever survived.

Her sister Naledi posted the invite as an Instagram story. It looked amazing — and it disappeared 24 hours later. By the next week, the questions had started.

40 seats. A hundred questions.

Everyone wants to be there — and everyone needs a slightly different answer.

The inner circle

“What time do we arrive? Are we doing a surprise?”

Every single guest

“"All black" — does that include shoes? Can I wear gold?”

First-timers at Sandton City

“Which entrance? Which parking? It is a huge mall.”

Gautrain riders

“How far is the venue from the station?”

The plus-ones

“Can I bring someone? Is there space?”

Naledi, the organiser

“Who is coming? Any allergies? We only have 40 seats.”

The after-party crowd

“Is there an after-party? Where and until when?”

The brunch crew

“What time on Sunday? Where do we meet?”

Two ways to throw a party

Same birthday girl, same guests, same night. The difference is where the details live.

The old way

Stories, screenshots and DMs

  1. The invite: a gorgeous Instagram story — gone after 24 hours. Half the guests screenshot it; half don't.
  2. The dress code: "all black" gets interpreted creatively. Someone arrives in white. Someone always does.
  3. The venue: "Sandton City" is not an address. Guests wander between entrances and parkades, calling Naledi.
  4. RSVPs: collected across DMs, WhatsApp and comments — and still 52 people turn up for 40 seats.
  5. A change: dinner moves from 18:30 to 19:00. The story is gone, so the old time lives on in screenshots.
  6. The after-party and brunch: mentioned in a voice note on the night. Nobody remembers where.
  7. Naledi: spends the party answering her phone instead of celebrating her sister.

With 43xEvents

One page that doesn't disappear

  1. The invite: the Instagram story links to the page — and the page is still there next week, and on the night.
  2. The dress code: "All black. Head to toe. No exceptions — not even your shoes." Written once, seen by everyone.
  3. The venue: the exact entrance, the closest parkade level, the Gautrain walk — and a map button.
  4. RSVPs: a clear deadline, who to reply to and "40 seats, plus-ones by arrangement", right at the top.
  5. A change: Naledi updates the time once. Everyone who follows the page sees it.
  6. The after-party and brunch: each has its own time, place and contact person.
  7. Naledi: puts her phone away and dances.
