Privacy Policy
We respect your privacy. This policy explains what personal information 43xEvents collects, why, who we share it with and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Last updated 27 October 2026
1. Who is responsible
Linkpot (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for personal information processed through 43xEvents. Our Information Officer is Mr NP Sithole, reachable at hello@43xevents.com.
2. What we collect
- Account details — your name, email address and password (stored encrypted), or your Google account name and email if you sign in with Google.
- Announcement content — what you add to an announcement: names, dates, venues, messages, photos, and contact details you choose to show.
- Orders — the package you bought, the amount and PayFast's payment reference. PayFast collects your card or bank details directly; we never receive them.
- Following — which announcements you follow, so we can send you updates.
- Technical information — IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited, used for security and, if you allow it, analytics (see the Cookie Policy).
- Messages — what you send us through the contact form or by email.
3. Information about people who have died, and about others
Funeral and memorial announcements naturally include information about a person who has passed away, and about family members. The person publishing confirms they are entitled to share it (see our Terms). We only use it to show the announcement. Please don't include ID numbers, health details beyond what you're comfortable making public, or other sensitive information you don't need to share. Family members can ask us to correct or remove information about them.
4. Why we use it
- To provide the service: your account, publishing and showing announcements, and sending updates to followers.
- To process payments and keep financial records, as the law requires.
- To keep 43xEvents secure and prevent fraud and abuse.
- To answer your messages and give support.
- To understand and improve how the site is used — only with your consent for analytics cookies.
- To send service emails (password resets, payment and publishing confirmations). We don't send marketing without your consent, and every marketing message lets you opt out.
Our lawful grounds under POPIA are performing our contract with you, legal obligations, our legitimate interest in running a safe service, and your consent where we ask for it.
5. Who we share it with
We don't sell personal information. We share it only with:
- Visitors to your announcement — what you choose to publish is visible to anyone with the link (or as your privacy settings allow).
- Service providers who help us run 43xEvents, under contracts that protect your information: PayFast (payments), our web hosting and email providers, Google (sign-in with Google, and Google Analytics if you consent).
- Authorities where the law requires it.
Some of these providers may store information outside South Africa. When that happens we make sure the protection is comparable to POPIA, as section 72 requires.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. Announcements stay until you delete them or the package period ends. Order and payment records are kept for at least five years for tax and accounting purposes. After that, information is deleted or anonymised.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, restricted staff access and secure payment processing through PayFast. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we'll tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
8. Your rights
You may ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, correct or delete it, object to its use, or withdraw consent you've given. Email hello@43xevents.com; we may need to confirm who you are first. Many details can be changed straight from your account and dashboard.
Formal requests for records can also be made under PAIA — see our PAIA Manual.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) — inforegulator.org.za.
9. Children
Accounts are for adults (18+). Announcements may mention children (for example, family members); the person publishing is responsible for having a parent or guardian's consent where needed.
10. Changes
We'll post any changes to this policy here with a new date, and tell account holders about important ones.
